Reege-onomics
I just came across amazingly detailed analysis of my Who Wants to Be a Millionaire strategy by someone who is much smarter than I am. I wish I had talked to this guy before humiliating myself on the show.
I was interested in Millionaire until I figured it out. Same with how they manipulate Survivor. The show’s research staff goes to school on **YOU** to decide when to send you to the showers. There isn't a human they can't trip up and there isn't a human they can't make into a millionaire... OK, I knew a few in high school. At this point, with thousands of contestants run through the sausage maker, I would be surprised if the research staff doesn't have a set code for each type of contestant... You were a 1K. “OK, camera one, tight shot on the 1K, camera two give me audience clapping for the 1K.” They studied you carefully to see the edge to your abilities. That doesn’t let Eric off, but does say why you got shot out the Millionaire canon at the point where they wanted you gone. They were ready to be gone with you and on to the next person. In fact, I suspect they were editing the show as they shot it and knew who they wanted on last that day and were angling to get that person on. It is about the show, not about you, in their eyes. Take the example of the IRS agent – He was the first touchdown. “OK, camera one, zoom in on the touchdown, camera two give me the audience.” They pushed him through his intellectual power zone and he delivered. I was watching that episode with the first millionaire, and I did know all of the answers... however, at other times I am blown out exactly where others are blown out. This is really about risk. The quiz and reality TV shows do not like risk so they all install puppet strings that they can manipulate. I was just writing a newspaper column and was using the Jacobs quote, “...the inertia of bad ideas is a powerful force.” It seems a bad idea to watch Millionaire thinking it isn’t rigged.
